Hydrodynamics by clearlyaruse

Two oddities, alienated from their respective societies, come together out in the open water.
Story Notes:

My first real attempt at experimenting with a second person PoV like this, and out of a desire to give the more destructive stuff I usually do a break.

I tried to keep it gender neutral throughout but apologies if anything slipped through.

(Would "Monster" be an appropriate tag for a mermaid? Unsure, but might as well play it safe I guess.)

Chapter 1

A series of annoyed mumbles escapes you as you read and re-read the list in your hand. Upon it were the myriad names of townsfolk who you had promised deliveries of fish to, some were your usual customers while others you don’t even remember making such promises.

Were you drunk… sleep deprived… or…?

Regardless, you now found yourself in the conundrum of having to deliver more than what you’d typically catch. And you weren’t keen on the idea of making yourself even more of an outcast by snubbing them.

Sighing, you toss the paper back onto your desk before shoving yourself away from it. Eyes looking out the window you notice the sun beginning to just break out over the horizon, lighting up the overcast skies in a fiery blaze. Looking back to the desk, you snuff out the gently burning candle upon it before turning away.

Gathering your wool coat, you grab a neatly folded fishing net that sat beside the door, fumbling awkwardly with it for a few moments due to its size you manage to wrangle it into something approaching carriable before heading out the door.

Shuddering as the early morning air washes over you, you step outside. Frowning slightly, you can already see the town beginning to wake up below you as a combination of light both magical and mundane lit up the windows of the other early raisers.

The town of Graywater was something of an oddity, despite its position along the coastline those who lived within it wanted little to do with the ocean. Superstitious to a fault, generation after generation had been raised being told of the dangers that lurked off their shores until eventually few bothered to venture out into the waters.

Instead, the town was notable for the alchemical properties of its surrounding flora resulting in an economy propped up almost entirely through trade.

It is within this already odd town that you stand out as something of an enigma. Living somewhat distanced from the town itself, your home was perched atop a cliff directly on the shoreline, it also afforded you an unobstructed sight over the town itself.

This, of course, didn’t help how they viewed you.

Not being a native, you had arrived some time ago; the relative isolation that Graywater enjoyed appealed to you. And though they looked at you funny none of them were openly aggressive to you.

Just passive-aggressive.

It wasn’t long before you moved into your current home, proving to be something of a small miracle due to how cheap it proved to be. Although you swiftly learned that was because none of the locals wanted anything to do with it, however, after some fixing up it turned out to be a rather comfortable living space.

Although you never did figure out what happened to the last owner…

What truly drove an awkward wedge between you and the locals was, instead, your willingness to go out into the ocean. Styling yourself as something of an angler you had no quarrels about setting sail into the waters beyond.

You still suspect some of them were placing bets on how long you’d live.

But, in the end, you wound up being somewhat successful in your endeavors. Becoming Graywater’s one and only fishmonger, you sold fish, people paid you for it, everyone otherwise left each other alone.

Making your way down to the shore you eventually came to where your skiff lay grounded on the beach. Carefully placing the net down within, you begin to push it out to sea.

While it wasn’t the biggest or most impressive boat you’ve ever seen it was… Good enough. Probably. It does occur to you that there’s almost certainly a better way of maintaining the damn thing, but you equally doubt you could convince anyone to let you build a viable dock.

At least the waves were calm today. Besides, if everything goes well you wouldn’t even need the thing soon enough.

As it hits the water you clamber inside and sit down, grasping at the pair of oars you begin the tedious task of rowing further out to sea.

A while later you finally manage to push yourself a far enough distance from shore to escape the attention of anyone who’d spare the ocean a casual glance, placing yourself at an awkward angle relative to the shore as an extra layer of security; hopefully making it too much effort if someone really did want to try and see what you were doing out here.

Standing up, you look down to the water below. The sun had risen further enough to allow for you to scan the ocean’s surface, your head on a swivel, but after several moments you still failed to find what you sought. Almost deciding to give up on this location and row somewhere else you perk up as you hear the water part behind you.

Shit-

With your attention faced forward you cry out as your boat is suddenly tilted heavily to the rear. Failing to keep your balance, you stumble backwards and fall. Knocking your head hard against the wooden planks, you groan pathetically for a moment before slowly opening your eyes, which immediately widen upon spotting the sight looming over you.

Hovering over you and your small boat was the visage of an unusual woman. Her eyes, a deep blue that glowed faintly, locked squarely onto you, her small smile only widening at your reaction, slowly revealing her razor sharp teeth in the process.

Her hair, long and dark, slowly detached itself from her wet form to drape down around you. A few drops of water falling from the giant’s teal skin onto your face, a small amount of the salty water landing squarely against your mouth. Grimacing, you sputter slightly in response which nets a series of giggles from the giant above.

The melodic sound causes you to smile slightly as well.

“Hello darling,” She greets you fondly, lowering herself until her face is roughly level with you. Watching you pick yourself up, the shift in angle allowed you to make out the last few details on her face. On her cheeks were a set of fine blue scales, their shimmering iridescence catching in the sunlight. Finally, notably, on her neck were a pair of similarly colored gills that outed the woman as one of the merfolk.

You warmly return her greeting, taking a few steps closer to her you brace your feet on the boat’s edge. Lifting yourself up you press yourself against the giant in the best approximation of a hug that you can manage, nuzzling yourself against the bridge of her nose. Nevertheless she hums contently in response, closing her eyes as the two of you remain like that for several quiet moments.

The mermaid, Marilith, was in truth the real reason you were out here. She too was something of an enigma to her people. As one of the Leviathans, exceptionally rare whale-sized merfolk, Marilith was no exception to the tendencies of Leviathans to live away from any society.

After your first few excursions out to sea she decided to make herself known to you, apparently being part of the “danger” that the locals fear mongered about, you were ready to accept your death right there and then.

Yet, it never came. Rather, the two of you engaged in casual conversation instead, during which one fact made itself fairly clear to you.

She was lonely.

Perhaps you were too, in hindsight, given how readily you accepted making a friend of her.

It was from there that the rest became history, with you coming out to visit her every few days for the past several months.

It would probably be obvious, if anyone else knew, that this was turning into something more.

The thought caused you to blush.

Marilith pulled away from the makeshift embrace, shifting her position, she slowly began to circle your skiff, “How are you this morning?” Her voice was song-like and soothed you down to your soul. You sat back down, her movements allowing you to see the rest of her just beneath the surface. The fish-like lower half of her body was coated in a fine layer of blue scales as well, her fins and tail were long and flowing almost akin to some of the fancier curtains you’ve seen before.

You also catch sight of her bare breasts, already proportionally big on her; the weighty orbs were nothing short of massive in your eyes.

It did nothing to help your blush.

Coughing, you finally respond to her that you’ve been fine.

Marilith doesn’t miss this, reaching under your boat she slowly pulls it towards her, “I’m glad to hear that,” Came her soft reply. Bracing the ship against her chest, you rock slightly from the impact, but you can only awkwardly avert your eyes somewhere else when she lowers her head directly next to you. An attempt was made to try and not meet her sidelong gaze.

“And yet… you seem so tense,” She added teasingly, her warm breath washing over you, “Do I have that effect on you? Would you like me to give you space?” Though Marilith’s tone was playful there did seem to be an edge of genuine concern to it.

You remain silent for a few more moments before slowly shaking your head, and although you don’t verbally answer her you do scoot closer. Leaning against her cheek, the smooth scales feeling cool on your face, you give Marilith all the affirmation she needed. Her smile widening yet again.

Pulling her head slowly back up, she lifts a hand out of the water, leaving it hanging in the air for a moment to allow for any ocean water to fall away, before slowly bringing it towards you. You look at her hand and then back up to her face, giving her a small nod of your own as you allow her fingers to gently wrap around you. The digits sliding over your form with great care, making every effort to avoid hurting you with the sharp nails on each finger.

Fitting snugly into her palm you’re lifted up and away from your boat, brought closer to Marilith’s face, she cradles you within both hands now. Seemingly determined to continue your action from just a moment before, you’re brought up against her cheek again. The giant nuzzles into you as if she were cuddling with a stuffed toy, which you try to return as best able by pressing yourself against her. The soft skin was surprisingly warm for an aquatic being like her, your breathing slowing down while the two of you remained silent and simply embraced once more.

…You realized that your woolen coat, though dampened, probably did make you feel like a stuffed animal.

Eventually she begins to slowly pull away her hand, with the pressure easing off you, you slump off her cheek and onto your back. Laying against her palm as she brings it closer in front of her face, her eyes gaze lovingly down at you.

“I’m glad you came out this morning, dear,” Marilith says with a happy sigh, “It does get oh-so lonely sometimes.”

Lifting yourself off your back, you shift into a seated position within her hand. Smiling back up at her, you tell her to think nothing of it. That you’re always just as happy to see her as well.

Gesturing back to your boat you likewise inform her you brought her net back, which she notes with a quick glance, before your voice shifts to one of embarrassment. Unable to maintain eye contact you slowly, awkwardly, begin to explain to Marilith your predicament. The unfortunate situation causes her to chuckle, closing her eyes she sighs in exaggerated exasperation.

“My… what would you do without me?” Eyes opening halfway, she smirks upon seeing you squirm in discomfort at being called out, “But it’s no worry, I had a feeling something like this would happen…”

Her voice trailed off as Marilith shifted her attention down towards her tail, lifting a small portion of the limb out of the water. You could see another net tied firmly against the tip, “I can give this to you whenever you desire to return back.”

Immediately you begin to profusely thank her, feeling as though a weight had been lifted off your shoulder. But Marilith only brushed it off, bringing her other hand closer to you she ran a finger down your hair, enjoying your involuntary shudder, “Think nothing of it,” She echoed back to you, “It’s always but a simple task,” Though intending to ease your worries you couldn’t help but notice the brag behind her words.

But that was the truth of it, wasn’t it? You never were the angler the townsfolk thought you were, in fact, you barely caught much of anything on your own. All this time all of “your” hauls were in fact purely based on the efforts of Marilith. You simply came out here and returned the mermaid her nets and then brought another batch with you back to shore, and all she ever desired in return was your company.

The reality of it causes you to slouch slightly, lost in your own thoughts at the obvious imbalance at play you only snap out of it when she calls your name. Shaking your head, you tell her that everything’s fine. Although it’s obvious from the look she gave you that she didn’t truly believe it but decided not to push the point.

“Do you need to head back now? I’m sure they won’t be happy to be kept waiting.”

You think about it for a moment… While, yes, you’d almost certainly catch shit should you take too long… But at the same time…

You eventually ask if you could stay with her for a while longer.

The mermaid seemed surprised for a split second at your choice to shirk your job, but just as quickly it was replaced with a beaming smile, “Of course! You hardly need to ask.”

As she starts to return you to your boat, presumably assuming it’d be preferable for you, you hold your hand up to stop her. Quietly asserting that you’d rather be with her, as in, close with her. Although you struggle to maintain eye contact for long upon seeing her smile widen yet further, her sharp teeth glinting in the sunlight, “You’re quite direct today, aren’t you dear? I wonder what brought this on…” Her voice trails off before she chuckles to herself, “Not that I’m complaining…”

Pinching you between two fingers, an act that, while gentle, still manages to elicit a small squeak from you, Marilith begins to lower herself backwards until her body is parallel with the ocean’s surface. Depositing you onto her stomach her hand returns to her side, going slack as it’s allowed to simply float upon the water. Likewise, with closed eyes she faced skyward, relaxing silently in the moment.

Not that you could see her face, braced down on your hands and knees against Marilith’s stomach you struggled for a moment as you sunk slightly into the soft surface. Not helped by its gentle rise and fall with every breath she took. But it was easy enough to stabilize yourself, what caused your own breathing to hitch was what sight greeted you upon looking up. Both of the Leviathan’s breasts loomed over you now like miniature mountains, each easily capable of smothering you wholly beneath them should the woman desire it, and without her hair covering them they were laid bare for the whole world to witness.

Gathering yourself together you cast them out of your mind for now, although you realize she almost certainly placed you here on purpose, lowering yourself onto your back you too take up a relaxed position on Marilith’s stomach.

Looking down past your feet, you notice her tail curling its way around your boat, holding it gently but firmly against herself to prevent it from drifting off. Though she was as careful as ever, doing her utmost not to damage it at all, it was obvious all it would take was one errant twitch and she could reduce it to splinters in a heartbeat.

Lowering your head back down you shut your own eyes, joining Marilith in the comfortable silence as you both simply enjoy being in the proximity of the other, your breathing eventually matching hers.

Soon enough a combination of the gentle rocking, ocean ambiance, and the soft “bed” beneath you threatened to lull you to sleep. Just as you were about to drift off did Marilith’s voice snap you back to reality with a jolt. Sitting up, you scoot upwards a few paces to try and hear her better, replying that you were there when you heard her call your name again. Frowning at the concern in her voice.

“I can’t help but think…” She begins, still staring off into the sky, “Would it not be better for me to join you on land? It would be a simple matter for me to shed my tail… and… we could spend more time together…” The mermaid’s voice drifts off, her tone having a level of uncertainty you haven’t heard since you first met her.

There was a kernel of truth to it, you were aware that merfolk were capable of shifting the fish half of their bodies to more human-like legs. But from what you understood, it was both an uncomfortable process and something typically only done if an individual’s position forced them above water for an extended period of time.

And, of course, there was likewise the issue of the sheer size of her. While she wouldn’t technically be wholly unique, matching the size of some larger land bound giants and dragons, you can’t imagine the townsfolk being keen on a giant emerging from the very ocean they feared.

Breaking your silence, you tell her that you don’t mind coming out here. Slowly brushing a hand over the smooth surface beneath you in some effort to comfort her, you continue to offer what reassurances you can.

You halt yourself upon noticing Marilith begin to move her hand, reaching it over to you to grasp you bodily once more. Hoisting herself back up, you were yet again face to face with Marilith, the mermaid opened her mouth to speak before stopping multiple times, finally huffing in annoyance at herself. Her usual smug confidence was all but gone in the vulnerable moment, but she did manage to give you a small smile.

“Thank you… truly…”

You began to try and respond but instead cried out in surprise when she brought you close against her, only managing to widen your eyes and brace yourself before her lips crashed into you. Locking you into a one-sided kiss as you were pushed against her palm by a pair of lips that easily overwhelmed the upper half of your body with their plush warmth.

Yet you didn’t struggle, instead melting into it in some effort to give back as much as possible. Though still one-sided, her content hum seemed to confirm she felt your efforts. Eventually pulling away with a satisfied sigh.

She giggled upon seeing your shocked expression, eyes widened as all you could do was lay there for several moments while trying to shake yourself back together. Babbling incoherently, but happily, while she brought you back to your boat.

“But that’s enough doom and gloom for one day.”

Perking herself back up Marilith lowered herself in the water, bringing herself to eye level with you once more, “So, tell me. How have things been on land? I hope those cretins haven’t been giving you too much trouble…”

Listening intently to you as you begin to speak more of your thoughts on recent developments within Graywater, adding her own commentary here and there, the two of you slip into a casual back and forth. The topic eventually drifts to whatever it is that comes to both your minds as the day begins to slowly slip by, each too captivated by the other to truly care for much else in the moment.

You couldn’t even try to deny it any longer; this was certainly “something more”. There was no way to pass any of this off as simply being friendly with her, and both of you clearly yearned to be with the other as much as possible.

Something that may become reality should your plans come to fruition.

But in the here and now you two were simply limited by the realities of your shared situation… A reality that hit you like a brick once you looked up and noticed the sun directly above.

Cursing, you apologize but inform her that you should really be getting back. She frowns for a moment but it fades away from her face just as quickly, “I understand, you have responsibilities you must attend to,” She says with a nod, “Ah… if only I could steal you for myself,” The mermaid continued with an airy sigh, teasing you while she curled her tail closer to herself; you could see her reach her arms down to untie the net, “Although, I suspect you would like that, hm?”

You blush but slowly nod your head, getting a series of giggles in response as she simply plonks the net full of fish down in your boat while taking her other net back. You look at it with no small amount of surprise at the sheer amount she had managed to catch, it was easily more than enough for what you needed. Stammering over your words you eventually manage to spout out another round of thanks.

“Any time, darling,” She replies, turning her gaze towards land, she looks back at you, “Allow me to help you return, I’d hate for you to suffer any more grief.”

You hesitate at her offer, though it would help tremendously you also worry about her potentially being spotted… Yet, you knew she was more careful than that. Nodding, you agree with her offer.

“Do hold on then. This may be a bit quicker than you’re used to,” With that warning hanging in the air she dove beneath the surface, a wave of uncertainty washing over you before you felt something grip the bottom of your skiff.

And with that did she begin to swim back with you in tow, a cry of surprise leaving you at the sudden movement, you shut your eyes and brace yourself on the boat’s floor. Just hoping you don’t get sick while the world seems to fly by around you.

Soon enough things begin to slow down once more until it comes to a gentle stop, groaning quietly to yourself you hear her surface above the water. Opening your eyes you’re greeted to the sight of Marilith peeking slightly over the boat’s edge, keeping herself as lowkey as possible.

“Oh my… and here I thought you’d have a stronger stomach than this…”

You try to fire back with a snarky response but a soft laugh cuts you off, netting a small chortle of your own as you push yourself back into a seated position. Grasping the pair of oars once more, you prepare yourself to finish the final stretch alone.

Sighing, the mermaid gives your boat one final soft shove towards shore, jolting you in the process, “Stay safe… I hope to see you soon,” Raising a hand just above the surface she gives you a small wave goodbye, which you return with your own goodbyes, before submerging one final time. Leaving you alone.

Staring off into the ocean you remain there in silence for some time before you begin to row back to shore, eyes drifting to the heaving mass of fish in front of you… A small grimace forming on your face upon realizing that you’d have to be the one lugging this around.

Your hand rapts firmly against the wooden door before you. A few moments of silence later you swallow your nerves and knock again with less force this time.

Still nothing.

A new day had come, and with it, was the hope your plan months in the making would finally come to fruition. All you had to do was pick up what you had ordered…

However…

Shuffling awkwardly in place you stand there for another few minutes before sighing and reaching for the door’s handle, opening it slowly you give yourself just enough room to poke your head inside. Calling out if anyone was there.

“Who is it!?” A woman’s agitated shout came back.

Flinching, you respond with your name and adding, rapidly, that you were there for the item you had commissioned. You hear some muffled muttering before her voice raises in volume, “...Right, come in. I’ll be out with it soon.”

Opening the door further you carefully make your way in, gently closing it behind you, you’re immediately assaulted by the pungent stench of so many myriad herbs and plants that you struggle to determine what is what.

Standing in a somewhat sizable room, it would have been quite spacious were it not for the shelves lining every wall with even more stretching out from the wall to make a maze out of half the room’s space.

No shelf space was left to waste either, what wasn’t taken by books was filled out by bottles of varying sizes, boxes, and satchels.

A slew of tables padded out the room’s other half, each overloaded with various instruments, containers, books both opened and closed, and various plants, rocks, and powders out in the open air. Likewise, strung up from the rafters were rows upon rows of more flora left hanging to dry.

With what windows the room did have buried behind a shelf, crate or table there was no natural light to be had, instead, a series of crystals were haphazardly crammed in whatever space could be found; casting a soft magical glow in a radius around them.

The home belonged to Athas, an elven witch of considerable power and yet another oddball within Graywater. Far more capable than her current station would imply, you weren’t entirely sure what kept a woman like her in a town like this…

Well, at least she was willing to help you.

…For a rather considerable sum…

“Apologies, you caught me in the middle of something,” A tired voice spoke out, looking to its source you see the woman in question step out from a cloth-covered doorway. The sight before you was that of one that belittled Athas’ capabilities.

“Disheveled” was the best way to describe her. From her faded blue robe that obscured most of her form, to her tangled red hair seemingly always managing to cover her eyes in spite of all efforts to push it away, to her emerald colored eyes, always half-closed, with dark circles beneath them betraying her severe lack of sleep. All tied together with a paleness of someone who rarely ever saw the sun. Even her pointed ears seemed to always droop a little.

“Hello,” Was her blunt greeting.

Greeting her back, you repeat what you were here for. Trying to remain polite while hopefully making the process as quick as possible. Unable to shake the feeling that your mere presence was annoying to Athas.

“Yes, of course…” Mumbling, she reached into her robe. Searching around within it for a few seconds before pulling out a disk-shaped amulet. Stepping closer to you, she hands it off to you, folding her arms across her chest afterwards, “Here, should be everything you asked for.”

Taking the amulet into your hand you look it over, a feeling of excitement building up within you as you take in its details.

Fitting snugly in the palm of your hand, its chain slipping through a gap in your fingers, both the amulet itself and the chain attached to it were made of bronze. A series of small intricate runes were meticulously carved into it, and you could see small swirls of blue and white energies dancing around each other within the center. Water and Air magics respectively.

More surprisingly, you could feel yourself begin to heat up the longer you held it. And upon closer inspection you could see a soft pink circling around its edges… Fire?

Looking back to Athas you ask her what this was about.

“Consider it a favor,” She responds simply, “Surely you know how cold it is under the ocean? It’s not a perfect solution but it should prevent the worst of it.”

That… made a lot of sense, actually. You thank her for her foresight to which she shrugged.

“It was merely an experiment,” The elf admitted, her face still maintaining its neutral expression as if this was normal, “I rarely get the chance to create something like this these days, I wanted to see if I could still handle it… Fortunately for you, I could.”

Opening your mouth you pause yourself before you say anything, you’re unsure how you feel about her admitting to your face she used something so important to you as a testing dummy… But you weren’t about to argue with her about it. Instead you merely thank her again, putting the amulet away in a pocket, you begin to take your leave of her house.

“Ah, I should add…”

You halt when she begins speaking again, looking over your shoulder you tilt your head curiously at her.

“It won’t make you any better of a swimmer, but you’ll be able to stay under there indefinitely so long as it’s close to you,” Athas explained before the barest of smirks crossed her face, “I hope whoever you’re seeing down there appreciates it.”

Your eyes widen, stammering over your words briefly before you eventually manage to spit out that you’re unsure of what she’s talking about.

“Oh please,” She counters with another shrug, “No one pays as much as you did for something like this unless it’s for good reason… And I don’t take you as the scholarly type.”

Before you can speak again Athas turns around and begins to head back into the other room, “Not that it concerns me, you do what you wish with it.”

With that she leaves you standing there as she retreats back to whatever she was working on before. Blinking a few times in shock you finally sigh and leave the building, a little ashamed at how easily she read right through you.

But, whatever. You had what you needed now, and you couldn’t wait to surprise Marilith with it tomorrow. A thought that made you giddy, putting a spring in your step that drew questioning gazes from those you passed.

Chapter 2

The next morning had come, and with it, you had taken off from shore far earlier than you typically would. Excitement reaching a fevered pitch, you couldn’t wait any longer. Rowing out to the same location from the other day it hadn’t hit you until now that perhaps you left a little too early, the sun hadn’t even begun to rise when you departed, and even now it was only barely peeking out over the horizon once you were in position.

Standing up you once again begin to scan over the ocean’s surface, trying to find any sign of Marilith. Mentally chastising yourself for not waiting a bit longer before heading out, you struggled to see much of anything in the dim early morning light. Only when your excited high was dampened somewhat did you also realize how cold it must have been, mitigated mostly by the amulet, but that wasn’t a good sign for how it probably was beneath the waves…

These thoughts are shoved aside, however, when you notice something moving beneath you. Circling back and forth as if it too was unsure of something… But it was certainly large, and definitely blue.

It was her. Maybe she was trying to confirm it was you as well? Maybe she hoped to surprise you again? Not that it would matter in just a moment.

Perking right back up again, you take a deep breath. Reaching to where the amulet sat snug against your collarbone you give it one last gentle squeeze for reassurance, planting a foot against the boat’s edge you throw yourself off into the water.

The moment you dive beneath the surface several things become apparent all within the span of a few seconds.

Firstly, the positives. You could, indeed, breathe underwater now, made somewhat awkward by feeling like you were breathing through a filter, but nonetheless it was working. You could also see, with the first thing greeting your eyes being a faintly shimmering bubble that surrounded you, barely noticeable, it must have been the enchantment’s radius Athas had made mention of. Speaking was equally possible if your surprised cry at the sudden shift in temperature was any indication.

That was where the positives stopped and where your brain began yelling a rapid fire series of negatives, threatening to send you into a panic attack. Your instincts screamed at you to get back into open air as soon as possible, and though you could see… it didn’t amount to much without a light source.

While you were tangling with all of this you heard someone call your name in surprise, followed shortly by a hand wrapping around you. A sudden upward lurch nearly made you disgorge the contents of your stomach right there and then, and in short order you found yourself back on the surface. A shocked gasp escapes you while your lungs readjust to breathing open air again.

The rest of you wasn’t faring much better, ears ringing and eyes glazed over, you could hardly see the blurry visage of Marilith in front of you. Nor could you make out whatever she was trying to say to you.

Slowly coming back to your senses, you could finally clearly see Marilith’s concerned face, a cross of panic and relief that she was there to seemingly prevent you from hurting yourself but her tone was still somewhat frantic.

“-What were you thinking?! Are you well?”

Drifting the two of you back to your boat she’s surprised when you hold your hand up to tell her to stop. You return her concern with a wide goofy smile, gleefully informing her that you never felt better before.

“I’m… glad,” She says slowly, looking at you incredulously, “But what could have possibly possessed you to do that? If I wasn’t here to save you then…” Voice drifting off, the mermaid sighed in an effort to push aside whatever morbid thoughts were in her mind.

A pang of guild stabs through your heart upon seeing her reaction, in your excited rush to surprise her you never did stop to think how it might appear to see a surface-dweller suddenly throw themselves into the ocean.

Deflating, you avert your eyes away from her, softly mumbling an apology for causing her distress. Noting that it wasn’t your intention.

Sighing, Marilith plants a quick kiss atop your head before bringing you face to face, “It’s… fine. But… Please tell me what has you so worked up this morning?”

Blushing furiously, you clear your throat before beginning to explain what you had just gotten your hands on. With your arms bound to your sides by her grasp you instead elect to puff your chest out in an effort to show her the amulet hanging around your neck.

Marilith’s eyes widen upon hearing you giddily explain how you could be with her in the ocean now.

Realizing her mouth was slightly ajar, she shook herself out of it before beginning to speak, unsteadily at first, “Then… you… you can stay with me…?”

You nod, correcting her in that you WANT to stay with her.

“And… this is why you were so adamant the other day…” She continued, beginning to understand why you hadn’t even entertained the thought of her living on land with you.

You nod again.

You cry out in surprise yet again as the rapidly familiar feeling of your body lurching forward greeted you once more. Only realizing what was happening once the giant buried you against her chest, both hands holding you tightly against her in an intense hug.

“That you would do all of this for me… I… I don’t know what to say,” Her voice was uneven, shifting in pitch from the overwhelming mix of emotions flowing through her. You try to speak, try to tell her your own feelings, but your voice is lost against her skin as the pressure behind you only increases the harder she embraces you.

Suddenly, gravity seemed to give out beneath you as Marilith fell backwards under the surface. Slower, this time, perhaps recalling what happened when you were so suddenly shunted from one position to the other.

Her hands released you, allowing you to drift upwards away from her, with the two of you now floating together beneath the surface it was now your turn to go slack-jawed at the visage before you.

Marilith’s blue eyes were already fairly intense above water with their soft glow that you could, and have, lose yourself in. But down here they were far brighter in intensity, standing before you like two blue beacons.

She doesn’t miss that you’re enraptured with what you see, slowly, she begins to circle around you. Twisting every which way, it wasn’t too dissimilar to what she had done before when you were in your boat… But back then she wasn’t able to circle over and below you…

The mermaid kept you in place with a series of wide playful motions using her fins and tail, the force just enough to push you back up to where you started before you sunk further.

It was an amazing sight, finally being able to see her fully and, relatively, clearly, the way her fins seemed to dance in the water. How her hair flowed wildly behind her in whichever way it pleased, and though she already dwarfed you in height before this was the first time you wholly grasped her full body.

Truthfully, it was also mildly terrifying, having a first-hand reminder that she was of a carnivorous nature. Yet something about it was equally thrilling, imagining how such a playful dance could be adjusted to dealing with a school of fish.

Halting when she was directly above you, Marilith slowly lowered herself down, reaching one hand around to catch you within her palm. She continued her downward descent until her face completely filled your vision. Its expression is nothing more than that of complete elation.

“I love you.”

Your face begins to shift to something that matches hers the moment the statement reaches your ears, opening your mouth to speak, she cuts you off by continuing.

“I’ve been wishing to properly say that for so long,” The Leviathan mutters happily, “I’m sure I already know the answer, but…” She brings herself even closer to you, the gap between the two of you now less than an arm’s length, “Will you stay with me, dear? Down here? I know it’s much to ask for but… please…”

There is no hesitation in your answer, reaching a hand up to caress what you could of her cheek you agree wholeheartedly. Returning her declaration of love with one of your own, the gap between you is entirely closed when Marilith nuzzles herself into you, which as before, you return to the best of your abilities.

“Thank you… Thank you,” Came her grateful reply in a series of happy murmurs.

You never would have figured that being underwater like this could be so serene, but in the here and now, in the silence beneath the waves, it felt like there was nothing to get between you two.

Though you wanted it to last forever it would seem Marilith had different plans for the two of you, her fingers closed around you in a loose cage, before she corrects her position to no longer be above you.

“So many places to show you… so many sights for you to see!” Bringing you down until you were chest-high with her you could see her tail flick happily side to side in a physical translation of her emotions, “Ah! I can’t decide,” The excitement within her was clear to see, and it wormed its way into you as well.

“Tell me, dear. What would you like to see? We have so much catching up to do now!”

You think on her question, blanking out slightly now that an entire other side of the world was open to you. But… Both of you likewise had all the time you desired now. Why rush it?

It also dawns on you that you truly had no real idea how the aquatic denizens of this world lived. Did Marilith have a permanent home…? Merfolk had their own societies, sure. But what of a Leviathan like her? Scratching the back of your head, you take your chances and sheepishly ask if you could see her home.

“Oh? Well, of course we can!” She chirps, a smug smile forming on her face as she looks down at you with half-lidded eyes, “I didn’t think you’d be so forward so quickly.”

Her teasing tone was enough to get you to avert your gaze again, insisting that you didn’t mean it like that and were instead asking from a place of genuine curiosity.

Giggling, she shakes her head, “You’re hopeless.”

Turning her body she begins to swim off deeper into the ocean, fingers closing in a bit more around you as you’re clutched tighter to her chest. Trying to shake the flustered feelings away you watch the ocean go past through the small gap between her fingers.

Though you couldn’t see much, you were able to catch glimpses of other sea life of various sizes and species in the brief moments they strayed near Marilith before darting away from her. It seemed naught was keen on remaining near the giant for very long.

The amulet seemed to be holding strong all this time as well, still tightly against you in spite of all the movement, it almost seemed unwilling to detach itself from your body. A failsafe, presumably. It likewise didn’t seem to struggle to handle the depths you found yourself rapidly descending.

…Which made you realize you have zero concept of time down here. The two of you had certainly been moving for what felt like some amount of time but without any real frame of reference you couldn’t pin it down.

“Ah, here we are.”

Her voice broke you out of your thoughts as she took you into what you can only presume was where she considered home. Your vision continued to swiftly deteriorate further as your surroundings darkened considerably, leading you to assume it must have been some large cave or something similar that she hid away in.

“It’s not much, but I do hope you find it comfortable,” Her hand opens up around you… leaving you standing in pitch blackness, with just enough of a sightline provided by your enchantment to make out the surrounding palm of her hand but nearly nothing beyond that.

Nothing besides her eyes beaming down at you.

Awkwardly, you quietly inform her of your problems.

“Oh.”

Her response was simple, sounding almost like the obvious just dawned on her. You add that you could probably return to the witch and see if there wasn’t anything to be done, to which she seems to nod at if the motion in her eyes were any indication.

“That seems wise,” Marilith agrees before her hand swiftly tightens around you, yelping as you’re quickly brought to her chest, “But I suppose that just means I’ll have to keep you close,” She purred, “We can’t be letting you get lost, now can we?”

You sputter out an agreement that it would be for the best. Not that you’d complain about the proximity anyway.

“I’m glad we agree.”

Keeping you pressed against her, Marilith slowly sinks down to the floor. Coming to rest on a bed of pressed down plantlife from what you’re able to gauge, but only for a brief moment as her other hand joined the first, locking you away from the outside world and safely kept against her.

At least, for a brief time. You ask what she was doing when you feel her pinch you between her fingers yet get no immediate reply. Instead, you’re left hanging limply in her grasp while you’re brought close to her face once more. Though this time above her instead of the other way around.

“This,” Was her eventual reply once you were close, her sultry tone not lost on you. Nor was the needy look in her eyes. Realizing what she intended to do, this time you were prepared for it as Marilith pushed you against her lips.

Still as one-sided as ever, you threw yourself into the kiss with everything you had. Spurred on by everything that had happened you tried to make it count even as most of your body, much like before, was all but buried against her.

With the pressure increasing on your back, it appeared Marilith was equally keen on intensifying what passion you two had. Your efforts all but lost in the process, reduced to being flattened against her soft lips as she did what she pleased with you. Your only retort being a pathetic squeak as the air was pushed from your body which only received a satisfied hum in response.

If what occurred the other day had you shocked, this time you were left utterly stunned. Pulled away in wide-eyed silence the Leviathan giggled merrily upon seeing the state of you before calming herself down with a satisfied sigh.

Her fingers then release you, knocking you out of your stupor as a sudden weightlessness overtakes you. Crying out, you sink downward before gently coming to a rest against something soft and bumpy.

Latching onto it in some attempt at finding security in the darkness you frantically try to ask what her intentions were when an airy moan cuts you off. Your eyes widen again when the surface beneath you begins to stiffen, pushing your hand upwards as it rises.

The realization you were dropped onto her nipple hits you like a bag of bricks.

You recoil back in surprise, threatening to topple off of her breast, when something makes contact against your back. Whatever sound you did produce is silenced as your face is pushed wholly into the nipple, eliciting another pleasured mumble from above.

Your frazzled mind is just about able to piece together what held you in place must have been her hand.

A small squeeze presses your body tighter against her teat for just a moment before it eases off you, Marlith’s grip on you was gentle, yet inexorable, the mermaid making an active effort to not push your limits.

Then the pressure builds again, her hand beginning to gyrate in a slow circle as you’re ground into the soft flesh below. An experience that wasn’t entirely unwanted, somewhere in the back of your mind you remember having dreams of a similar note many a night… Yet it was that same mind that pumped you full of adrenaline, shouting at you that something was very, very wrong.

The hold on you was firm but not so firm that you couldn’t move, and now with your body kept fully aware, you begin to squirm. Wriggling against your prison in some misguided hope that you might be able to slip your way out, but all you managed to accomplish was causing Marilith to squirm in pleasure beneath you.

Something that one part of your frantic mind registers as a good thing.

“Whatever you’re doing, dear… Keep it up,” Marilith’s airy voice encouraged you, “This is what you wanted, wasn’t it? I’ve seen how you stare all those times,” Her grip tightens even further, now pinning you in place entirely, the giant’s tone intersecting between smug superiority and a needy whine.

Her effort not to push your limits seemingly fading as her own desires took over.

Barely able to even writhe in place anymore, the building pressure began to hurt. Your bones creaked in ways you knew they shouldn’t while your mind screamed for escape, unable to speak without your voice getting lost in the plump surface, your body defaults to an instinctual last resort.

You bite down as hard as you can.

A giddy squeal from Marilith fills the air as her grip constricted hard around you, pushing you down against her with no self control, your vision goes white as pain wracks your entire body, bones threatening to break from forces they were never supposed to withstand, you’re just about ready to accept your fate when suddenly the pressure subsides all at once.

Groaning in pain you remained splayed out against her breast, the ringing in your ears blocking out the initial panicked reaction from Marilith before it finally cleared, your name ringing out in the cave.

“-I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to… to-!” Her distress was obvious, managing to reach you in spite of your current condition. On shaky hands you manage to hoist your head up, bracing yourself with one arm you use the other to tap against her a few times to indicate you’re conscious.

“Ah-! I’m sorry, I… I must have gotten carried away…” The mermaid’s eyes were wide and alert, scanning over your body for any obvious injuries. You notice her hand begin to close in on you when she halts herself, its fingers twitch in uncertainty before it’s pulled away.

Shakily you call out, truthfully, that you’re fine. Slowly moving the rest of your limbs you force yourself into a seated position, your bones ache and you knew you’d probably feel it in the morning but nothing was broken at least. Miraculously the amulet was fine too if a cursory grasp at it was an indication.

Looking at Marilith you can see the shame clear on her face, distraught at the thought of hurting you she was quiet while you got your bearings again.

Coughing, you speak up and tell her you’re fine, just aching.

“Oh thank goodness,” She releases a held breath, slowly reaching out for you again. She still seemed uncertain with herself, “May I…?”

You nod, adding she doesn’t need to ask.

Taking a soft hold on you again she pulls you back to her side, clutching you protectively against her you could make out a series of apologetic mutters coming from above. You’re silent for a few moments while you lose yourself in your own thoughts.

What had just transpired was as equally exhilarating as it was frightening, any rougher and you could have been looking at several broken bones if not worse. It stood as a stark reminder of the obvious imbalance between the two of you and of the casual ease a Leviathan like Marilith could hurt you.

On the other hand… It was just as much the sort of thing you were willing to accept with a relationship like this. Something you have had indecent thoughts about before, even.

Speaking up, you cut her off, insisting to her that it was fine. You weren’t injured in any way you wouldn’t be able to walk off and… That you didn’t entirely hate it.

Just maybe there should be boundaries next time.

She gasps, beginning to say something else until she stops herself. Eventually landing on a grim chuckle.

“Mmh… you’re hopeless…” She echoes, tone perking back up slightly, “Of course. I just don’t know what I’d do with myself if I hurt you…”

Releasing you back on her chest she sighs, closing her eyes for a moment, they reopen and lock back onto you, “You must be tired after that, yes?”

You affirm her question, leaning back down against her, the two of you seeming to have reached a silent agreement to move on.

As she continued to stare down at you it was now your turn to look back at her awkwardly when a certain thought crossed your mind.

“Yes, dear?”

You shift side to side while you try to think of how you wanted to word this. Roughness and pain aside… You still didn’t hate what happened. Had you any warning for Marilith’s intentions you may have even gone along with it.

Might as well be direct about it.

Clearing your throat, you quietly ask if maybe she could do it again.

Her eyes widened upon hearing you, muttering your name in baffled disbelief before losing herself in a series of melodic giggles.

“I admit, you have me quite stumped,” Marilith muses, taking a hold of you, “Are you bold? Or are we both just foolish?”

“I’ve wished so long for this… And that you’re here with me? Well, it still feels like a dream.”

She repositions you deftly using her fingers, slowly lowering you downwards until you feel your feet come into contact with her breasts. You’re pushed ever further into her cleavage, the twin orbs squeezing down around you until you’re buried halfway up your torso.

She halts there, pulling her hand back until it’s hovering around the portion of your body still visible, “Is this okay?”

You nod your head.

“Good,” With that, you feel a finger push against your head. Using the single digit to finish what she started until you’re completely lost within the confines of her breasts. The finger retreats, and you find yourself barely able to move once again as the weighty mounds push down around you from all sides.

It was remarkably warm, like being surrounded by layer after layer of heavy blankets, and while your breathing was somewhat hampered it was nothing like before. An overwhelming sense of calm instead fills you as you feel Marilith likewise relax beneath you, the mermaid’s body softening as whatever lingering tension was left faded away.

You realize you could hear the woman’s heartbeat from here, its rhythmic beating proving effective at lulling you into a half-asleep state. You happily mumble something but you’re unsure if she could even hear it, nor did you register what she did say as you finally drift off into a peaceful slumber. The day’s events finally catching up to you.

“Rest well,” Marilith says softly, leaning her own head back into a resting position, “I’ll see you soon…”
